The AFRO Giving Collective

because...Africa is in Me!

Afro Giving Collective is a giving circle made up of individuals in the African Diaspora that deeply care about changing the narrative of philanthropy and community development on the African continent. Our mission is to bridge the gap and create unity within global African Diaspora communities through centering the collective Black experience and cultivating practical giving strategies.

WE’RE ACCEPTING MEMBER INTERSTS FORMS!

mission/vision/values: our why

We are co-creating a space for African descendants to embrace a philanthropic mindset to be intentional changemakers. We believe in the phrase, “Africa is in me” and are dedicated to exploring our Black identity, consciousness, and liberation. Through our giving circle we are working to disrupt power dynamics by challenging the Western structures of charitable giving. We are rewriting the narrative of philanthropy and reclaiming our ancestor’s tradition of collective giving beyond the dollar. The Afro Giving Collective is gender neutral and we are committed to maintaining an environment that is inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible and centers social justice. We honor the following values:

Relationships - Honesty - Respect - Generosity - Empathy - Community Development - Creativity - Education

  1. Mindfulness: education, (un)learning, consciousness, decolonization

  2. Power/liberation: empowered to change a complex narrative

  3. Capable Capital: inspired to all be philanthropist, changemakers, givers

  4. Roots/origin: continuing to honor our ancestor’s legacy of caring for our people

  5. Connection: community fabric threaded by shared culture & lived experiences

We’re starting with partner communities in Ghana and Zimbabwe (the two countries our co-creators represent) and plan to expand our efforts across the continent. Organizations address a variety of local issues ranging from food insecurity, economic development for families, entrepreneurship, rural area development/agriculture, access to essential resources like water, solar power, and much more.
